Tesla S on Letterman tonight

Is it any surprise that the battery-operated Tesla Model S is going to be on David Letterman tonight (11:30 p.m. EST, with Jennifer Garner and the Manchester Orchestra, who are not from Manchester)? It may not fit in the guest chair all that well, but the Tesla S is one ultra-hip vehicle, a $57,400 ($49,900 with the federal tax credit) sedan adapted from the two-seat Tesla Roadster. Founder Elon Musk might say a few words, too, but it’s the car everyone will want to see.
According to Musk, the Model S “will likely be the first fully drivable car to appear on Late Show with David Letterman.” I like that qualifying “likely” there. The show bans internal-combustion engines because of environmental regulations, an ironic twist because, as Musk says, “Dave is a passionate car enthusiast who loves to wax about his favorite vehicles—but, hey, it’s a great opportunity for the Model S.”
I’m going to party with Tesla tonight, a swank affair in Manhattan that includes not only a promised ride in the car (zero to 60 in 5.6 seconds, seating for seven, 300-mile range, 45-minute quick charging) but a group viewing of the Letterman show. I’ll report tomorrow on how it all went.
