Unfortunately there are few people who are well trained to train their dogs. This is one reason the population in shelters is so high - less than 3% of dogs are trained in any way. When I was breeding and showing dogs the dogs that were not going into the show ring were started out very early on learning to sit and come - it takes just a few minutes when they are so young and you get amazing results.
