Retail, retold
Sun, Dec 20 2009 at 10:29 PM EST
There once was a girl who liked to buy old lady purses.   She bought them secondhand, of course. (This girl was very, very good.) And she saved the rest of her money to do responsible things, like pay for in-between-job health insurance.   Read this blog
Highway to haven?
Sun, Nov 15 2009 at 4:01 PM EST
The Hine's emerald dragonfly, the rarest dragonfly on the planet and the only to appear on the Federal Endangered Species List, recently stopped traffic in Illinois. That is, it commanded attention from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) to the tune of $6 million.   Read this blog
Train reaction
Sun, Nov 08 2009 at 8:30 PM EST
If a train leaves Chicago, traveling at 220 mph, and reaches up to 10 other large cities in a matter of three hours or less per trip, will the midwest be set in motion, too? Many economists think so.    Read this blog
Illinois' coal war
Mon, Oct 19 2009 at 10:39 PM EST
If you look at the bright side of things, not one Illinois college or university made Sierra Club's list of 22 educational institutions using their own coal power plants. Though, it's hardly reason to celebrate.  Read this blog

Sun, Sep 27 2009 at 4:59 PM EST
Last weekend we joined Friends of the Illinois River for its annual River Sweep in Peoria. Hive five

People keep cows for milk, sheep for wool. (But these people have a lot more land than you do.)   Never fear. You can keep bees. Even in the city! Unless, of course, you're phobic or allergic. In which case I would stick to growing herbs...   If keeping bees sounds sweet, though, check out these top five resources in our state: Read this blog
Kids dig in

Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I will eat vegetables.   Okay, not traditionally how the saying goes. But for some Chicago parents, the philosophy has worked wonders.     Read this blog
