While there is no lawsuit, there has been an awareness of this in Australia Rugby codes, as well. The number and severity of injuries is quite overwhelming. Here in Australia it is believed that the armored "padding" that American Football (Gridiron) players wear cause players to hit harder, with more force, and possibly cause more injury. I'd love to see comparative studies on that. Australian players wear very little protective gear.
