I happened across this

I happened across this article. I don't deal with autism in any way but with Bipolar Disorder which is also a spectrum disorder.
My take is that many with kids on the lower, more functional end (?) *may* be the ones more likely to "wear it as a badge" type of thing as one commenter wrote. Even worse are those parents who see a symptom and self diagnose. People love to be right. I've come to the conclusion that this is a basic need for many people. She (JM) saw that what she did happened to help her child and she fixed him because she was right and everyone else should do the same. If her child was very high (?) on the spectrum, none of this would have come about. Those who have children in that situation are too busy living their lives and doing all the therapy, research, caring for another child, either being a wife or being single and providing for the family.
Everybody is on a spectrum. Not everyone who cares for those with autism are in one camp or another (warrior train or attention whore--she's both actually). A spokewoman for a cause speaking negatively about those within the cause is completely ridiculous, but I would bet they don't want to let her go.
Karla Akins isn't perfect, but she's trying to dispel misconceptions that are hurtful. People in her situation have enough to deal with.
