i agree. the best kind of education is one that begins with respect -- for ourselves, for all humanity and for the planet. once we wake up to this reality, a reality which indigenous peoples across the world have never forgotten, then we'll have a chance to continue to prosper on this space ship called earth. i blog about ways in which we can help move ourselves in this direction at http://www.100daystochangetheworld.com susan

I agree with David Roberts that the future of environmental activism will be both non-violent and creative. Seth Godin in 'Tribes' wrote about how most organisations operate by marketing to the 'crowd' as opposed to the 'tribe'. He defined a tribe as being a group of people who are led and inspired to make a change, and who are both longer lasting and more effective than a crowd. Society has changed hugely since the start of Greenpeace, and it is time to adapt to it and change the way we engage with it. I have a blog (http:www.100daystochangetheworld.com) which was born out of the frustration I felt with the way that issues I care deeply about are communicated. I decided that most people these days tune out when bombarded with climate change facts. And that there is a chance that if people are shown that they can make small changes to help make an impact they will more likely act. I have an enormous amount of respect for Greenpeace and I am hopeful that their creative, brave and restless spirit will conquer! Susan

I find that the issue of landfill and the perils of our over-consumption fills my mind on a daily basis. I struggle with grocery shopping every week i.e what food packaging can be recycled and what can't. It's a fight with my conscience on every shopping trip. I've been blogging about this issue (http:www.100daystochangetheworld.com), but what inspired me to start a blog in the first place was the idea that we can do something about all of this. That's what I particularly enjoyed about this mnn post, and is similar to what I try and do in my own blog: to show people that we can make small changes (with a big heart) and help change the world.
