The "wow" signal was NOT from an advanced alien race, because the signal was "narrowband". **Intelligent beings** would develop transmitters and receivers, and come to understand modulation and digital communications, and they would eventually utilize digital communications extensively. As codes with good correlation properties are **essential** to effective and efficient digital communications, no doubt their transmissions would use Barker and Gold code sequences, and there are only a few codes that have good correlation properties. **Intelligent beings** would end up using digital communications using the few good code sequences, and they would also compress the information using the most efficient compression algorithms. We know what the code sequences, and we probably know what the best compression algorithms are. If signals from outer space contain Barker and Gold code sequences, we know we are intercepting signals from **Intelligent beings** and then we have to play around with the compression to find out what they are saying.
