Franken fixes

Soda bottle sprinklers and wire hanger toilet paper holders are just two of the weird, wonderful DIY contraptions at There, I Fixed It.

From the geniuses who brought you I Can Haz Cheezburger? a new-ish website called There, I Fixed It will leave you either inspired or completely mortified. But most likely, you’ll just have a good LOL session.

There, I Fixed It is basically a duct tape-heavy collection of photographs — some user-submitted — that proudly display “Epic Kludges and Jury Rigs.” While several of the DIY home repair projects featured on the site are actually innovative and eco-friendly, just as many are ridiculous and/or fall into the “don’t try this at home” category (I’m talkin’ to you Two Person Hot Tub and Fire Alarm).

I’ve picked out a few of my favorite home-related hacks from There, I Fixed It to share. Are there any offbeat, on-the-cheap DIY creations of your own that you think make the cut?

don't you know slurs?

maybe I'm wrong but I've always thought the expression to be "Jerry-rigged"which, if I'm not mistaken includes the perjorative Jerry which was as "towelhead" is to an arab to a WWII German and the phrase is somewhat grudgingly respectful.

Jerry-built

Jerry-built is bad workmanship and refers to the biblical story of Jericho, where the walls fell down after a blast from a trumpet. Any reference to Germans is coincidental or a joke from Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Clean your ears.

Jury-rigged! Not Jerry-rigged. It comes from the improvisation of a jury mast on a ship.

Jerry-built is a different term. It implies shoddy workmanship, something badly made.

it is jury rigged you nitwit

get your facts straight before you spout off stank chicken. "Jury rigging refers to makeshift repairs or temporary contrivances, made with only the tools and materials that happen to be on hand. Originally a nautical term, on sailing ships a jury rig is a replacement mast and yards improvised in case of damage or loss of the original mast."The phrase "jury rigged" has been in use since at least 1788.[1] However, the adjectival use of "jury" in the sense of makeshift or temporary dates from at least.... When you quote stuff you really should tell people where it comes from (especially if you copy the footnote numbers as well).

"Jury rigged"? Gimmee a break.

The expression is "Jerry rigged." As in the derogatory term for German soldiers used by GI's in WWII.

Congratulations

Obviously UrbanDictionary is the be all and end all of etymological study. It's certainly not user submitted content. Nope. Nuh uh, not at all. That wouldn't explain the multiple definitions of the word at all. Anyways. It is Jury Rigged, btw.
