Soak antique white linens in Octagon Soap, rinse and dry in the sun...beautifully bright linens.
I was so excited tonight to find Octagon soap on clearance at one of our small, family owned grocery stores here in VA!! .29 cents per bar!!! I bought all 30 bars!!!! I normally use Fels Naptha to make my laundry soap, but I guess I'll be using Octagon before long! My husband is highly allergic to poison oak and poison ivy, plus he's an outdoorsman and often attracts the ticks, both of my sons suffer from severe eczema and one is allergic to mosquito bites........These 30 bars will be.... I used to work with a doctor that used octagon soap to clean the sores on children legs, and really healed them.
anyone interested in old octagon soap wrappers. 1958?
Darn Jim, The Food Lion in Maryland has it for 79 cents. You got a steal. One bar does 4 or 5 front loads mixed with 1/2 cup Washing Soda.
If you have a Food Lion Grocery Store near you they carry it. I bought 10 bars for 59 cents each.
where can i find plain lye soap
I am looking for octagon soap in Grand Island, NE. Can anyone please tell me where to get it? Wal-Mart does not carry it, Super saver has fels and zote but no octagon. Please e mail me or leave a reply to this comment. Thanks!

My family history is of a long line of fishermen. My father told me that a "sounder lead"(about a 6 inch long, 2 inch diameter, lead bar) that we have, was used by attaching a line to one end and dropping it to the bottom to determine water depth. The unique thing is that the other end is hollowed out and was filled with Octogon soap so that it would either bring up samples of the bottom (sand, grass, shell, etc.) or an impression (rock, coral, etc.) according to my father.
This soap was what made me meet the love of my life :)
I always have one at home and yes it's amazing for removing stains and carrying on trips :)
www.lehmans.com if you can't find it in a store locally. Lehmans is in the Amish country and they have just about everything you can think of in the way of old and hard-to-find items. They even sell a starter kit to make laundry detergent from these soaps. Here in TN, people still appreciate the basics so it's not hard to find. If you go into a store and ask some teenage or 20-something employee if they have Octagon.... More
Seniors at my center wear pieces of octagon soap attached to their knees they
swear it takes away arthritic pain...I tried it and it works...this should be
marketed as a pain cure
Never heard of this, but I'll tell my dad about it. Some people laugh at home remedies, and I got to admit I've heard some that were just dangerous. But when somebody is in constant severe pain, they'll try anything. Over the years, my dad has tried (for arthritis): WD40 (sprayed on the joint), copper bracelets, magnetic bracelets, shark cartiliage pills, cider vinegar (drink it), and others I am sure he never told me about. Of course, none worked, but when you have to pay about $20,000/year.... More
I have heard tell it prevents broken arms when used regularly.
My grandson use to get a blistering diaper rash and the only solution was to bath the area each diaper change with good ole Octagon soap.
yea stephanie its good bait but it makes the catfish taste a little soapy dont you think.
this soap is the best soap i have ever used. i started using this soap to see if it would make a difference with my exiama skin diease its almost like psorisis but more painful than psorisis. octagon soap helps my exiama so much that i bathe with it everyday and it actually reduces most of the pain and clears up my skin but not completely but deffently helps alot
My mother used to soak the bar in water making a liquid soap. She would put this in a spray bottle and use it to spray her garden vegetables to get rid of pesky bugs. I tried in on caterpillars and it worked great
I am looking for either Octagon or Fels-Naptha because I read in a gardening book that they will get little critters; like aphids off of plants. My plants are indoors now so I can't splash the aphids off with the garden hose. Will let everyone know how it works.
My granny used Octagon soap to wash our clothes in between our trips to the laundry mat. Now I use it to wash my dishes in and it is wonderful. It does not leave residue in the rinse water, it rinses quickly, cuts grease amazingly on dishes and pans, etc.
The OTHER use I have for it is washing out my dish towels and dish cloths. They come clean without bleach, smell great and are not stiff when they get dry. I use it for small laundry tasks in between laundry day like my granny did. I.... More

I have been told by two people at our church that they put Octagon soap bars betweent the sheets of their bed and its helps the joints such as hands, feet, knees or any other joint that is causing pain. They could not say why it works but that it does indeed work. One of these people is a retired Minister, so I am going to buy some for my wife.
the power of suggestion is operating here. And Americans laugh at other cultures for being backward.
Octagon soap is a miraculous cat urine odor deodorizer!!! I just discovered this fact after throwing out several items I could have totally deodorized with Octagon soap and saved! After trying numerous expensive remedies touted to get cat urine odor out, and which FAILED! Desperate, I thought about my old grandmother and her Octagon cake soap. I was delighted to find that I could STILL BUY IT, in Shop Rite grocery stores!!! You can either rub the cake on the stained, smelly area,.... More
I had a male cat 'break into' my house and decided that my couch and all the cushions were now in his territory. I did lots of research on all those expensive remedies and found that they all had baking soda in them. So, I put each pillow and cushion in its own large plastic trach bag with enough baking soda to coat the pillow/cushion. I left them in the bags for two weeks, just like the directions said for the expensive stuff. That was 3 years ago... I am still using the couch, and have.... More

CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO USE THIS SOAP AS A LAUNDRY DETERGENT?
duh, duh,
just put a bar in your washing machine
2/3 bar of Ocatagon or Fels Naptha Soap, (1 cup grated)
1/2 cup 20 Mule Borax
1/2 cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
Grate the soap as fine as you can using a food processor or grater. Mix with the remaining ingredients.
Use: 1 Tablespoon per load
I've been using this for about a year now and I love it. I use the Fels-Naptha bar the most because I like the way it smells but either soap will work.
That's great. Or use those measures w/ 2gallons Hot water, simmer the bar ,grated, in 2qts water till melted.then stir all together, wait 24hrs. Use 1/3 cp per LG.load
hey barbara that almost sounds good enough to eat. what would go good with that as a side dish.
wet the clothes, rub a little on stains and extra dirty parts and them put them in the washer. You can also make a liquid detergrent with borax, washing soda, and shaved piecews of soap I make a 5 gallon bucket and it lasts me all year for just pennies per wash.
I am interested in making th liqiud detergrent, please, list the amount of each ingredient. Thanks for sharing.
1 bar of fels naptha grated well to make flakes
1 cup of borax- Borateem 100 mule team brand
1 cup of Arm and Hammer washing soda
use 2 tbsp per load
extra dirty clothes may need an extra tbsp.
scrub greasy spots or stains directly with a damp bar of fels naptha
look online for other recipes if you want to make a gel version that uses 5 gallons of hot water to which you add basically double the ingredients,or you can use Zote soap plus fels (I find that kid's.... More
