Diversions: Hiber-Nation '13

A very happy Monday and welcome to part three of "Hiber-Nation," a special series of posts featuring home accessories and other odds and ends geared to make housebound-in-the-winter life a touch more bearable.

Now that I've set you on the right path by recommending an assortment of cozy-making throw blankets and ennui-busting books, it's time to take a gander at a dozen super-fun DIY diversions and distractions to help keep restless minds sharp and your idle hands busy on days when the weather is too frightful to venture outside (but you'd rather not stay inside and do things like clean out the fridge or do taxes). As you can see, it's an eclectic assortment — voodoo dolls! jigsaw puzzles! cross stitch kits! — geared to help you merrily pass the time with or sans company. While these items may not all be exclusively eco-friendly/handmade, all, with the exception of one big-ticket item, are engaging in a way that doesn't involve powering on and subsequently getting suck into a gadget, gizmo, or i-what-have-you.

Do you plan on picking up a new hobby, distraction, and/or craft project at home this winter? Please do share in the comments section! And stay tuned for next week's special installment of "Hiber-Nation" where I'll be wrangling up a few products good for keeping housebound family members of the four-legged variety preoccupied during extended cold snaps.
