Hiber-Nation: Slippers

Are you — and your feet — ready to spend a lot of time loafing around the house this winter? Toasty tootsies make for a happier hibernation, so make sure yours are clad in comfy, eco-friendly slippers.

Not to be the bearer of bad news or anything but if you haven’t heard, some forecasters are predicting that this January could be the coldest that the U.S. has experienced in 25 years. And over in the U.K., the month of December was the coldest in 100 years. Super.

Since it’s shaping up to be a season that will find many folks loafing around the house for extended periods of time, I thought it would be appropriate to kick-off “Hiber-Nation," a new series of weekly posts featuring home accessories and other odds-and-ends that will help make housebound-in-the-winter life a bit more enjoyable.

To start things off on the right, ahem, foot, below you’ll find nine slippers — three for guys and five for gals and one unisex option — that are ideal for long stretches of around-the-house lounging. All are vegan and/or made from earth-friendly materials such as natural wool felt, organic cotton, hemp and recycled PET.

Stay tuned for upcoming ”Hiber-Nation” posts covering mugs, throw blankets, books, coat racks (you gotta have somewhere to put those heavy winter coats when you come in from the cold, right?), and more. And for energy-saving, mostly DIY home weatherization accoutrement, check out my “Weatherize this” series from last winter. Now, folks, onto those cozy green slippers …
