A very happy Monday, MNN readers, and welcome to the fifth installment of "The garden party," a special new product-centric weekly series geared toward all of you al fresco entertainers, patio partiers and backyard BBQ'ers out there. The emphasis, as you may have gathered, is on outdoor entertaining paraphernalia that boast one or more of the following eco-friendly attributes: a. handmade b. made from sustainable or recycled materials c. domestically manufactured or d. durable/made-to-last so in that they’ll be used not just this summer but for many more summers to come.
Now that the drinks are flowing, the tunes are pumping, the grill is fired up, and any pesky, non-invited party guests have been given a fair warning, it's time to think about matters of outdoor lighting. Every festive (nighttime) shindig in the garden needs a bit of illumination to set the appropriate mood and to prevent sauced guests from stumbling into the rhododendron bush on their way to pour themselves another glass of rose. Below, you'll find a range of eclectic and non-electric outdoor lighting options ranging from solar-powered string lights to bioethanol-fueled "firelights" to hurricane lamps made from recycled glass. Click here and here for even more outdoor lighting ideas.
Do you have any DIY outdoor lighting tricks that you've broken out for your own backyard gatherings? Vintage Mason jar lamps or homemade solar-powered lanterns, perhaps? Tell me about 'em in the comments section.
