Annoying all-stars

Not to be a buzzkill (ahem) or anything, but along with the many joys that warm weather outdoor sports and activities — camping, hiking, biking, boating, bird-watching, berry-picking, badminton-playing and the list goes on and on — bring, there are often many annoyances. And no, we aren't talking about sprained ankles or your super-competitive cousin/golf partner Randy. We're talking about summertime bugs, of both the flying and non-flying, biting and non-biting varieties. Because really, nothing can ruin an otherwise beautiful day spent in the great outdoors like a swarm of gnats, an infected black fly bite or marauding, disease-carrying ticks looking for a blood-based snack. Although many summertime bugs can be classified as irritating and aggravating, here are our picks for the six most pesky warm weather bugs and why they drive us mad. (Text: Matt Hickman)
