That hasn't been possible in the past — unless you're a customer of Ecover, Seventh Generation, or some other consumer-focused company. You might be surprised to know that U.S. law doesn't require manufacturers to state the ingredients of household cleaning products on the label.
But the industry is beginning to offer a peek behind the chemical curtain, anyway. SC Johnson kicked off a website called What's Inside SC Johnson to list and describe the ingredients of brands such as Pledge, Windex and Shout. Other manufacturers are promising to follow suit. So start reading, and find out what your family has been breathing all these years.
