I’m seriously considering planting a couple of blueberry bushes. I need to make my choice soon. Where I am in South Jersey, my window for planting them is only a couple of weeks.

I want to grow blueberries because the thought of heading right outside my door to pick a bowl full of berries for pancakes in the morning sounds heavenly to me. I’d also love them for muffins and smoothies and just to pop in my mouth straight from the bush.

I’m doing a little research right now on blueberry plants, and I found this very helpful video that talks about the right soil (They like the same soil as azaleas and rhododendron, and I have both in my front yard.) and how to care for them while they become established. It’s got all the basics for someone who doesn’t know much. The video was produced by Penn State’s Department of Horticulture.

Do you grow blueberries in your yard? Any tips or secrets you can share with me would be greatly appreciated.
