White House kitchen garden goes year-round
Hoop houses allow the garden to produce through the winter.

White House Food Initiative Coordinator Sam Kass, USDA Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan, USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Harris Sherman, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Chief Dave White (that's a lot of important sounding titles) introduce us to the hoop houses at the White House kitchen garden.
The hoop houses allow the White House to “do it smart, do it well,” as Merrigan says, by growing year-round. They hope to inspire other gardeners as well as farmers to use similar hoop systems to help build local and regional food systems.
