Leeks

In contrast to the rest of the onion family, leeks are cultivated for their stems, not their bulbs. Therefore, harvesting leeks in the fall is a much more delicate process. Pack dirt around the base of the stem to keep the leeks upright and full of nutrients. Make sure they get plenty of sunlight and water, and they will be the ideal topping for a homemade vegetable salad. (Source: www.your-vegetable-gardening-helper.com)
