Buckeye chickens at work
Pigs aren’t the only hardworking animals on the farm. Buckeye chickens, a critically endangered heritage breed, eat slugs and weed seeds, fertilize the ground and then scratch in that fertilizer, aerating the soil. Vingelen moves the coop around periodically to different plots in need of fertilizer. In the image above, the chickens are doing their part to improve The Herbfarm’s most recently acquired land.
