You can’t go wrong with Etsy Seller foldedpigs’ line of funny and macabre repurposed dinnerware. Kansas City-based ceramics and horror movie nut Meredith procures old, restaurant-style ceramic plates and mugs, refires them, and fuses some pretty grotesque handmade images into the glaze … brains, cockroaches, hearts, skulls — take your pick. Many of the pieces come with cheeky sayings, as well, like “Eat Your Heart Out” and “I Love You More Than Zombies Love Brains.” 

 

I first spotted foldedpigs and her nauseating wares at last summer’s Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn where I swiftly picked up a cockroach-y “Bon Appetit” appetizer platter. A week later, I was serving pate and crackers off of it to a friend who looked suitably upset. Worked like a charm.
