Rooms available in Comcast Town

Hone your interior design skills (and win a $30,000 room remodel) without spending a cent or impacting the planet in Comcast Town.

Tue, May 12 2009 at 8:11 PM EST

Here’s an entertaining virtual design competition for amateur interior designers with mad skillz, green geeks with an eye for aesthetics, daydreamers with some serious OCD, and recovering Sim City dorks like me: Comcast Town.

Comcast’s new-ish site lets you design the virtual digs — well, just a room — of your dreams with help from sites like NOTCOT, Inhabitat, and BoingBoing. If you complete your room design and register by May 14 at 11:59 PST (sorry for the late notice) you can enter the room in an online design competition, the Comcast Town Design Showdown. The grand prize is a $30,000 real room makeover complete with a bunch of fancy electronics and design consulting by Inhabitat's Jill Fehrenbacher.

Check out the video below detailing the Design Showdown. Under the video is a screenshot of the MNN Pad designed by yours truly. It's a bit barren, I know, but I was working with a limited budget and my taste for high-end furnishings was a strike against me. Plus, in Comcast Town, Chinese food is really expensive.
