What, if any, ideas can be found for those who do not have the money to accomplish even 1/8th of one of these 8 buildings? There are sooooo many people who really want to take going green home wise VERY seriously but simply cannot afford it. If this problem were to be solved you would more than likely see more ecologically minded built or refurbished homes. Also, where can the best deals be found for say solar energy, etc.?

All of the "Green Homes" and Green products are wonderful! I'd absolutly LOVE to be completely dependent on Solar engery rather than the power company. Unfortunatly, like most people in the world, I simply can't AFFORD to go green!

When will the Green initiative movement realize that they are preaching the wrong message? Going green is absolutely an admirable and desireable goal. No question! But until it makes financial sense, it's going to falter and even fail.

Make Green.... More

sustainable does not have to mean exorbitant prices. It's possible to achieve substantial energy savings with simple changes to the building process. check out my company's website for award winning, energy efficient homes: www.wintersunllc.com.
meritage homes, a large national builder, is building homes that are 80% more efficient at entry level prices.

I agree with MidwestDad. Going green is my dream, but not within my means. I rarely read green articles anymore because of it. The benefit is there...available to only part of the population.

Wonderful - had I the means to build my own house, id't have to be minergy standard. More and more people in Switzerland build minergy houses - that's what our children's and grandchildren's future should be.

I want the Remainder Cabin or the Lundberg House.A great place for a single green hermit like me . , , plus my cats, of course. These are all so amazing. I salute the architects. Were younger and richer this is exactly the sort of home I'd commission.

Chrysalis Farm House

Designed by Roland Gundersen at Whole Trees Architecture and Construction, a green design and natural building company. Located in western Wisconsin, this company incorporates carefully chosen, debarked trees into its structures. Each tree is chosen only when it will benefit both the building's structural integrity and when its removal will benefit the forest in which it grows. The Chrysalis Farm House is a passive solar guest house made of whole-tree columns and beams, along with walls made from recycled shipping palettes. (Text: Jennifer L. Chait)
