PCI ResidenceDesigned by Pb Elemental Architecture. The PCI Residence glows, literally — the home's exterior is made up of 100-percent recyclable polycarbonate walls, which illuminate the home from dawn to dusk, as well as a custom LED lighting system. Chris Pardo, cofounder of Pb Elemental Architecture, says the design "was based on the concept of interacting with and utilizing nature." Among other green building techniques, the home incorporates rooftop solar panels, in-floor radiant heat, a rainwater-harvesting system and low-impact materials such as raw concrete and raw steel.

They don't make good eye candy, but they seem to be about as green as you can get. Perhaps too radical for most people though. Here is a link:

Could you possibly highlight green houses that are actually affordable? These, and homes from similar articles, put the idea of green architecture/building completely out of reach of normal humans.
I agree that articles on green architecture almost always features houses at the high end of cost per square foot. There are some very green modular houses, but they lack the stunning looks of these houses. Maybe MNN will do an article on affordable green houses.
You should check out Kingfisher Cottage in Hockley Valley, Ontario. It is a straw bale cottage. Here is the link to their website:
