let's look into the fact that we are totaly dependant of oil, i think we should first make our way to being totaly dependant of water and then we can build eco houses and cities otherwise well still be poluting the air and our precious water.

When air warms it can hold more moisture, cool the air and it releases it. Where did all the water go that was stored in three-mile thick glaciers during the big ice age? Some raised the sea level but most went right into the atmosphere as humidity. Sorry, sea levels won't rise as much as you think, even if the earth was warming and all the glaciers melt. Cool the air and you get rivers of water falling from the air.

When the last ice age ended 12,000 yrs ago & mile thick glaciers melted, the sea level rose by a couple hundred feet. The melt did not go into humidity...There is very little ice left today in comparison to 12,000 yrs ago and very little overall melting..

Water evaporation is caused by heat and USA is flooding from excess evaporation as did Australia,etc..The evaporated water soon falls on land as rain which causes the floods.

Texas, Oklahoma, New Mex etc. are in a severe drought....looking at WEATHER history in decades does not give any idea as to how the CLIMATE is fluctuating over
centuries...Look at the worlds regional CLIMATE fluctuations over the past few thousand years and you will find that our weather is not unusual...

Studies in geology over the last several decades, studying over 300,000 years worth of ice samples from the worlds glaciers. (I wish I could post link, but may be able to google it). These studies show an influx and decrease in greenhouse gases,(carbon, etc.) About ever 100,000 years or so these levels rise to a certain level (the highest on the study) and then about 50, 000 years later it drops back to it's lowest levels! This has been going on for hundreds of thousands of years. The.... More

SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER 05/10/2011 14:48 PM

I seem to remember being taught that plant life "breath in" CO2(carbon dioxide) and "breath out" oxygen............AM I THE ONLY PERSON IN THE COUNTRY NOT FALLING FOR SOME RIDICULOUS AL GORE FEAR MONGERING CAMPAIGN!? DID YOU GUYS KNOW THAT AL GORE STARTED THE FIRST "ECO CREDIT" BUISNESS ABOUT 3 YEARS BEFORE HIS "INCONVIENT TRUTH" LAUNCH. NOW HE IS RAKING IN OVER 500 MILLION DOLLARS/YEAR FROM THE MORONS(GUILTED INTO BUYING THESE ECO CREDITS BECAUSE THEY ARE REMINDED EVERYDAY THAT THEY ARE.... More

The concept artists as usual have come up with some amazing designs, most of which require major advances in material engineering. But I think that even if these challenges are met and building them becomes practical, affordable living would still be a dream of the future. Most people displaced by rising sea levels will simply move inland. That's obviously the cheapest and most practical solution. Artificial island living, assuming it becomes a reality at all, will only ever become a luxury.... More

There is no scientific debate over whether global temperatures are rising. The evidence is quite indisputable on that fact. There's no scientific debate over whether sea levels are rising. Again, the evidence is indisputable. What is not indisputable.. and where the controversy enters the picture is how much, if any, of the climate change that we're witnessing is being caused by human industry. And thus, how much, if any, of it can we prevent. This is where scientists differ on global climate.... More

Scientific facts are that there is NO global temperature rise and there is NO sea level rise....Any statements that temperatures & sea levels are rising are self-serving lies and hoaxes by crooked scientists being bribed by Govt. grant money..

It is simply not a hoax. It is science. The ones who want you to believe otherwise are the deceivers. They are profiting from the current way we live. Scientists have no reason to lie. Corporations have every reason to lie. Wake up.

Self-Serving liberal environmentalist scientists have "sold-out" for Govt. grants to research & prove global warming...Never has science been so disgraced & discredited by a biased group of self-serving crooked scientists..

Those pictures are amazing. I think Dubai is leading the way with this at the moment. The idea would to be have it "floating" so any rise in sea levels wont affect it long term. Very interesting.

Overpopulation is the biggest problem/issue we face in the future. Instead of expanding into the sea and tearing it up with more waste and pollution, a simple 2 kids per family approach would ensure a sound planet....the biggest obstacle to this rational solution is religion. Nobody has the guts to fix this.

Yes, because China's one child policy didn't up with having too many males and not enough females. The fix for society isn't going to be limiting how many children we have but how well we find alternative resources weather it be living more in vertical cities, in the sea or on it. Or even finding other places because in reality many first world nations are going through a birth decline but it isn't denting anything.

Some people want a large family. Do you really think the government should have the power to limit the number of children you can have? Wow. And what then happens if a family of four becomes pregnant with their third child? Do you kill it? I know I don't have the "guts" to kill an unborn child. Just because you consider something to be rational doesn't mean it is indeed rational. I am guessing you have no children. If you had children you might better understand; or maybe YOU wouldn't. .... Populations decrease in ration to income. If you want to cut the population, increase the wealth of the general population, All the laws on the books now stack the deck AGAIST the small business, professional and highly skilled workers. GE, Google and all the Financial Dinosaurs can only exist if laws are passed to punish competition and create monopolies. Don’t blame religion unless you include the religion of Marxism, Socialism, Fascism and Governmentism.

Why has no one addressed the most obvious solution to overcrowding?? Population control. What ever happened to the suggestions of 2 children per couple. We're breeding way too fast for Mom to handle anymore

I started out in engineering and went on to get both chemistry and physics degrees. Having lived on my boat in the ocean and also familiar with the associated maintenance and logistical problems. The basic cruise style ship and barge design made more sense than some huge concrete and foam monstrosity that couldn't be moved. Also it would be much easier to scrap a cruise ship and recycle after it's useful life was over. As far as the use of massive floating concrete structures, the making of.... More

How about just building habitats based on current basic cruise ship models with a college dorm type eating and laundry?(Less waste and water consumption) Gardens and solar cells could be mounted on surrounding barges to make them self sufficient. This technology already exists and wouldn't be that difficult to adapt. Better yet they would have the capability of moving if weather and oceans conditions dictated. Even north in the summer and south in the winter retirement communities could be.... More

Real-life 'Waterworld'

The planet is warming, which is causing glaciers and ice sheets to melt and Earth's sea levels to rise. As the ocean makes inroads over the next century, people living in low-lying areas will be displaced, leaving them in need of new homes. Don't let memories of "Waterworld" deter you from checking out these innovative marine dwellings. Whether you're concerned that your home will be soon be beachfront property, or you've simply always wanted to live life at sea, you don't want to miss these groundbreaking (water-breaking?) designs.
