The future of housing is in silicon based buildings. Silicon is a nonmetallic element thats abundant in the earth's crust which humans can afford to waste because it causes no harm to the environment. Sand is mostly made up of silica (silicon dioxide, or SiO2), hence it is one material the world could never run short of because it makes up a great percentage of the world's surface.
I wonder why the government hasn't thrown money into researching silicon building materials for the world of the future,
.... More
let me guess, it could mean bad business for the capitalist corporations that control this country.

everyone's house would be really jiggly :P
Silicon itself is not toxic, and sand has been used to build houses for millennia, but what you create with it may or may not be environmentally friendly. Silicone (i.e the rubber-like stuff) probably is not all that environmentally friendly to make. Houses made of SiO2 (glass) would be a little dangerous and take a lot of energy to make.
If you can think of an alternative using Si, I'd love to hear it. I'm all for using renewable/abundant materials.

It's time everyone, including our State and Federal governments realized that environmentally responsible housing and green living is what everyone in the future will have. The sooner we start making it easier and affordable for the average homeowner the easier the transition for everyone.
