Not too long ago, the notion of living in an 8 by 20 foot box was enough to stop a potential homebuyer in his tracks. With the rise of innovative green architecture, rejiggering, stacking and linking versatile freight shipping containers and transforming them into fully inhabitable homes is an increasingly in-vogue practice.

I think it's a great idea, I remember when I was young and there was hemit that lived in the railroad boxcar at the edge of town. Now it's Chic!

These are very elegant and classy homes. And because they are built out of shipping containers, they are very eco friendly and affordable too. I wonder how much these houses cost if they were built using traditional construction materials?

If you are considering modular or prefab home, or looking for an alternative to high cost construction, building with recycled shipping containers is worth taking a look at. There are many considerations that have contributed to the appeal of building with intermodal shipping containers - availability, standardization, the recycled/green factor, economy and speed of construction, their durability, and even their "elegance/grace".
