Cordell House
Numen Development, LLC, Houston, Texas
Shipping container homes offer endless appeal to adults lusting after modern, sustainable architecture that’s much more than just a straightforward “green house,” but can these structures also be kid-friendly? Kevin Freeman and Jen Feldmann’s homey 1,583 square-foot, three-shipping-container compound in Houston (where there’s no shortage of containers sitting empty at the city’s port) is indeed accommodating for the couple’s son, Eli, and family pooch. However, when young Eli reaches his teenage years, the couple may want to consider acquiring another, probably soundproofed shipping container.

Its the idea and motives behind the construction of these structures that continue to intrege architects out there. The more materials that don't end up in landfills and eventually covered up the better for the future of the planet. Look at what has been created out of a simplistic steel box that has been configured in different oriantations to create dwellings that I would move in to tomarrow if given the chance.
I've been in this home and it is fantastic! It was on the Rice University Architectural Tour. Check out more pictures on the website of the people who built it. www.numendevelopment.com It's hard to judge from this one picture how truly amazing this home is.
if only 3 containers - that's 526 sq ft per container.
there must be an add-on??
what is the size of a shipping container??
Shipping containers are 20' long or 40' long generally with 8' x8' door opening. Thye are steel, waterproof and stackable. Shipping companies routinely retire containers that are no longer seaworthy but fine for other uses.
using wooden paneling for the home made of GPC defeats the purpose!!
