M2ATK Container House
M2ATK, Mexico
No matter how hard they try to blend in, shipping container homes, at their core, are exceedingly hip. Mexican designer M2ATK’s Container House plays up the hip factor with winning results. Custom-designed for an artist craving both inspiration and relaxation, each stacked container in the three-story structure has a specific purpose: live, sleep and work. It looks a bit modernist stark, but the home is fully tricked-out with a bathroom, kitchen, climate control systems and other necessities of a conventional dwelling.

These would make good storm shelters or emergency shelters if you buried them in your yard. Hook up electricity with generator back up and have all your supplies and it would be a great place to bunker down.
I wanted to have one...Now, thats cool and eco-friendly!
why not send surplus containers to areas hit by earthquakes, (haitti) it would be better than tents, and they wont fall apart., secure, watertight.
Sending containers to Haiti for people to live in? Do you know how HOT it is in Haiti? Who will pay for airconditioning? Or is the idea to cook the people?
I wonder...would a well designed insulation and manual ventilation system keep these units somewhat cool (liveable)...especially if the exposed portions of the exterior were treated with a heat resistant or dispersing material? Just a thought.
Aren't there a bunch of hoops to jump through when it comes to zoning in a community? If houses in an older near the city in the city limits made of wood or old brick style bungalows of the 1950's, wouldn't the neighbors fight against it? Or would it be made outside to look like a vinyl or brick facade home?
This is a wonderful idea, if it would fly for older neighborhoods with small lots. The cost was mentioned in California at $200 per sq. ft. but could cost $180 down to $100 a sqare.... More

Senior moments you know
Here is the web site of a company near St Joe, MO that build storm shelters out of containers.
I have visited their facility and they have the ability to build you a home if you have the ability to pay the price.
I've been a fan of container homes for years, but have built two in semi trailers as I like the portability.
the house are fantastic-but we needed more pictures on the inside.
When i go to a store i always look for a price it looks like they will sell it to you after they find out how much are you willing to spend. The one with the bike.I would be interrested in that one I would have 20 or so rent them by night or hour what goes on inside.Like Shultz said I see nooothing.

Great post! I've been hearing about these shipping container homes, so it's nice to see them in the many variations. Perhaps though, a future post could address more the issues of cost and resources for one to create ones own container-house.
I loved this post. Very creative uses of seemingly limited use materials.
