2013 has given us new species named after director James Cameron, a vengeful heroine from Quentin Taratino's "Kill Bill," a catchphrase from a CBS comedy, "Lord of the Rings" star Dominic Monaghan and now - Daenerys of House Targaryen from HBO much-loved "Game of Thrones" series.

While you'd expect the Mother of Dragons to inspire the naming of some kind of fearsome flying creature, instead scientists at Federal University of Ceará chose a newly discovered species of sea slug. Their reasoning for calling the new creature Tritonia khaleesi has more to do with Daenerys silver hair than her fire-breathing companions (but they have their own brand of beer, so don't feel too bad). From the research paper:

"The standard of the silver band on the back of the slug reminds braids Khaleesi of silver hair, especially in the last episode of the first season of the show. Besides silver color, the species is one of the smallest sea slugs, as well as Khaleesi is also described as low and new."

For those interested in specifics, this new species of sea slug is "distinguished from other tritoniids by jaws with 10–14 rows of denticles on the inner lips, absence of stomach plates and the radular formula 32 × 2––5 teeth.” Now you know.
