Adorable and Endangered
The San Joaquin antelope squirrel is found only in the San Joaquin Valley of California, and can be spotted in Carrizo Plain National Park. This species thrives in the arid habitat, but unlike many squirrel species, doesn't take up habitation in land that has been cultivated. Because of this, the species' population has declined dramatically since the area brought in humans who shifted the land toward agriculture. Unfortunately for this species, the threats simply continue to increase and there isn't much of a bright light at the end of the tunnel at the moment.
