Tent caterpillars

Those enormous spider webs you see on trees might not actually be spiderwebs. To protect themselves, tent caterpillars can form huge silk webs, sometimes covering the majority of a tree! The resulting web is like an apartment complex of sorts for groups of caterpillars, where they can move to different areas, depending on the temperature. After a long day of feeding, the caterpillars will return to the protection of their apartments.
