Peacock at the High Park Zoo
A colorful peacock from Toronto's High Park Zoo was easy to spot while he roamed the streets after two different escape attempts in 2015. Locals and the media chronicled his adventures via photos on social media as the bird hopped on rooftops and strolled down alleyways.
Sarah Doucette, the city councillor for Ward 13 who sits on the board for the Friends of the High Park Zoo told the Toronto Star that while peacocks at the zoo occasionally fly to trees in the area, “this one’s a bit more adventurous.”
In trying to bring the bird home, the zoo played pea hen sounds in the area and placed food all around the park.
“I had a feeling he’d go home, I’d been saying that since day one. I had faith in him,” Doucette said. “He took his time. He could have been quicker, but he took his time … we’re very happy he has returned home, and he’s safe and sound. Everybody can go find another twitter account to follow now.”
