Who will survive in our new climate reality?
It's no secret that climate change is bad news for countless animal and plant species across the planet, but believe it or not, there are many creatures doing quite well (and in some cases, doing better than ever before).
This is just one of the topics tackled this November in a special climate change edition of National Geographic. As the famous publication goes all in on the climate change situation, contributing writer Jennifer Holland gives readers a fascinating look at which animals are adapting in response, and which animals are standing on the edge.
The following are excerpts from Holland's eye-opening article, and they are paired with stunning images from the National Geographic Photo Ark — an ongoing project by photographer Joel Sartore that started with the simple goal of capturing "portraits of the world’s captive species before they disappear, and [inspiring] people everywhere to care."
