Sleeping cuties

A pair of red pandas sleep on May 22, straddled across a wooden log inside their enclosure at the Beijing Zoo — a well-regarded zoological research center that specializes in the breeding of endangered animals — in China's capital city.

Native to the temperate forests of southwestern China and the eastern Himalayas, red pandas are classified as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List, largely because of habitat loss, poaching, population fragmentation and overall reduced fitness caused by inbreeding.
