Helsinki's unique Scandinavian culture, welcoming vibe and plethora of indoor and outdoor activities make it a great destination any time of year. Fortunately, it's easy to get warm on the coldest days here.

Finland's sauna tradition is alive and well in Helsinki, with options ranging from the traditional public Sauna Arla, to a couple of old wood-burning ones in the city, to modern spas offering a full menu of body-warming treatments.

The huge indoor Serena Waterpark (shown here) is open year-round, while the Flamingo Center also provides water-based fun as well as shopping, golf, movies and a lively nightlife scene. Covered markets are open year-round as well, so that visitors can get in touch with the city's more traditional side.
