Critically panned when it was released in 1995, "Waterworld," a Kevin Costner flick, was a disaster on two levels, making back only $88 million of its reported $175 million budget. The plot is silly, but the circumstance is plausibly grim — it’s set in a future where polar ice caps have melted, flooding the planet and forcing survivors to travel the seas in search of dry land and fresh water.
