In a lot of ways, the people who make a living fighting against a sane, reality based response to the dangers of global warming have it easy. They're not bound by the constraints of fact and truth and can freely invent and disseminate any wild theory, claim, study, or list that helps serve their purpose- to create doubt and fear.

The earth is actually cooling. (it's not)

But it's really cold in North Dakota. (doesn't matter)

There's no scientific consensus. (yes, there is)

They predicted global cooling in the 70s and were wrong, they must be wrong now. (they didn't really, and they're not wrong now)

It's the sun. (nope, it's not)

Science makes my brain hurt. (I bet it does)

All of these statements are talking points created and pushed by professional doubt mongers like the ethically challenged folks at Washington, DC lobbying firm Bonner & Associates who were just busted for sending forged letters to Members of Congress purporting to be from non-profit agencies asking them to vote against the Waxman Markey climate change bill last month.

The similarly ethically-void people at the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) paid Bonner & Associates to send letters to up to 12 legislators that were forged to appear to be from groups like a local North Carolina chapter of the NAACP voicing their opposition to the climate change bill, even though all the groups were on the record as being in favor of passing the bill.

Big Coal has too much at stake in this fight to let a little thing like the law get in its way. For shame.

Big Coal plays dirty
In an effort to scuttle last months successful vote on the Waxman Markey climate change bill, a "clean coal" lobby forged letters to Congress.
