Vesta's South Pole

[skipwords]Vesta is believed to be around 330 miles long, revealing what some experts are calling the “oldest extant primordial surface in the solar system.” This photo from the Dawn mission shows us a unique view of the asteroid. NASA plans to use Dawn to explore Vesta, after which the space agency will direct Dawn to the asteroid Ceres. “This image of the asteroid Vesta, calculated from a shape model, shows a tilted view of the topography of the south polar region,” writes NASA. The space agency has removed the curvature of the asteroid to highlight its features.[/skipwords]
