Wildflowers of California encircle a pond

If California sees enough rain during the winter and early spring, then chances are excellent that Carrizo Plain National Monument -- normally an arid, brown landscape -- will come alive for a few weeks with vibrantly colored wildflowers. The golds and purples that encompass this pond bring extra attention to the bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds that are reflected in its surface.
