Slot canyon ablaze in color

Red, magenta, gold, orange, pink, vermillion, tangerine ... the list of names for colors vibrating off the walls of Antelope Canyon can go on and on. This famous sandstone formation on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona, lures visitors from around the world to see the angular walls and spectacular colors that occur when the sun is in just the right position overhead.

Not only is this slot canyon a draw for hikers and sightseers, it's also a photographer's paradise. In fact, it's the most visited and most photographed of all the slot canyons in the Southwest. The endless textures, layers, light and color possibilities keep people staring in slack-jawed wonder as they wander through this amazing natural formation. Much of the canyon's appeal is the "flowing" aspect of the rocks, a characteristic honed by years of water eroding the Navajo sandstone.

Once again, no one beats Mother Nature in the beauty department.
