Camp out

Carrizo Plain National Monument has two camping areas, Selby and KCL campgrounds. Both are basic — a handful of slots with fire pits, picnic tables and a bathroom. You can also trail camp near the roadsides, which might be a necessity during the two or so weeks of wildflower bloom in the spring, when photographers flock to the area to see the painted hillsides. Visitors can bring their horses, and there are a couple corrals set up at the KCL campground where you can turn out your horses between trail rides.
