Sea turtles are heading to the coasts of Louisiana, Alabama and Florida for nesting season. They may become coated with oil or swallow it as they pass through the Gulf of Mexico on their way to shore. In 1979, after an oil spill off the coast of Mexico, Kemp's ridley sea turtles, an endangered species, had to be airlifted to cleaner waters.
