A salute to our veterans
Meet U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (retired) Alvin Henderson, who felt that serving his country was the right thing to do.
On Veteran’s Day, we are reminded that freedom is not free; it is hard won by many heroic Americans, including those serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Thousands of Georgia-Pacific employees are in the U.S. military currently or have served in the past. On Veteran’s Day and every day, we salute them. Their bravery and sacrifice help keep our country safe and free.
One example of this bravery is U.S. Army Sergeant First Class (retired) Alvin Henderson, who felt that serving his country was the right thing to do after leaving high school in 1983.
Watch this video as Henderson describes his time in the military and the profound ways in which being in the U.S. Army influenced him. He also shares his proudest moment as a service member — when he and his team made it home safely from Iraq.
Henderson, who has worked for Georgia-Pacific for 26 years as a mechanical-electrical technician, recalls his feelings about fighting for his country.
“War humbles you. War will make you love your family more. War will empower you to want to do the right things when you get home. It makes a person stronger about life and what they believe in.”
