Buy fresh, buy local farmer's market sign - locavore, local food movement

A locavore is someone interested in the local food movement; buying and eating foods that are produced locally whenever possible. Locavores often eat what's in season, so they can purchase produce from local farmer's markets or their regional foodshed to ensure food hasn't travelled a long distance to market.

While sustainability is the primary motivation for eating locally, locavores often participate in community gardens and CSAs to contribute to their local economy as well as develop a deeper connection to their food source. Most locavores are also interested in consuming organic, minimally preserved foods. (Photo: Shutterstock)
