The 2008-09 school year is winding down and most schools are getting ready to go into hibernation mode for the summer.  Schedules are lighter and the administrators have not yet ordered the supplies for the 2009-10 school year.  This is actually a perfect time to talk to your school administrators about the types of products that are used to clean your kids' schools.  Illinois and New York now mandate that only environmentally friendly, nontoxic cleaning agents may be used in public schools.  But if you live in any of the other 48 states, it's up to you to find out what policies your school has in place regarding cleaning.

Research shows a clear link between poor indoor air quality, sick students and teachers, and poor academic and occupational performance. In addition, children miss more than 14 million school days each year due to asthma which is exacerbated by poor indoor air quality. Green cleaning can help reduce the environmental hazards that negatively affect children's growing, developing bodies.  

Most schools still rely on an armload of toxins to do the job, with cost being the greatest roadblock to change. If that's the case at your child's school, make an effort this summer to convince them to make the switch.
