Barton Springs Pool
This historic Austin, Texas, pool was built on the site of a sacred spring that the local Tonkawa tribe once used for purification rituals. With an average water temperature of 70 degrees, Barton Springs quickly became a popular swimming hole among settlers in the 19th century.
After it was deeded to the city of Austin in 1918, the swimming area was expanded by building dams and sidewalks around the spring. Today, Barton Springs Pool remains a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
