I got pulled in pretty much right at the beginning. I mean, Ted had sort of, Ted laid the groundwork, basically said, 'I want to do a show. It’s called, Captain Planet
,' and it was environmental, and it was empowering for kids, and then it was sort of left to us to figure out how that was going to play out. And I guess they, at that point, they were also pitching or taking pitches from different animation companies who would do it because DIC, Ruby Spears, and Hanna-Barbera were the three original entities in it. It was originally produced for DIC. And originally we were going to be the environmental sort of overseers, environmental consultants, because Barbera’s division was we were the international documentary unit. We did environmental programming for Turner Broadcasting. But it was really strange, because the animation experts came in and what they presented to us was basically animated documentary, and it was like, this doesn’t make any sense. The whole point is to have fun with it and sort of really create a mythology and whatever. And so I started writing a bunch of stories, and one of the stories became the original episode. It was called, A Hero for Earth
. And we had been sort of fleshing it out, bringing in villains, and figuring out ways that the kids would interact and have their powers and go from there.
