After 300 words and 66 rounds, the five-hour Jackson County Spelling Bee came to end without a winner because judges had run out of Scripps-approved words.

Two spellers, fifth-grader Sophia Hoffman and seventh-grader Kush Sharma, remained when the competition came to a close after judges failed to stump them by pulling words from the dictionary.

The spelling contest will resume March 8 to determine who will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
