It’s the holidays and this can only mean one thing: there’s a good chance that you’ll be bestowed with a gift that, for better or worse, emits a scent, be it a new toilet seat, duct tape, a fancy soy candle or a two-piece gift set of Britney Spears Intimate Fantasy fragrance for women. It’s inevitable.
In Japan, a nation where cats guzzle cabernet and preside over train stations, one of the most buzzed-about new scented products offers a (literally) heady feline fragrance profile. And while said product may not be yet available for stateside holiday gifting, perhaps some day we’ll all be able to witness the sheer confusion — or unbridled delight — as a friend or loved one opens a gift box containing a bottle of Moho Mohu Odeko no Kaori (translation: “Fluffy Brow Scented Fabric Water.”)
Offering the olfactory benefits of cat ownership but none of the errant hairballs or broken dishes, this otherwise ordinary fabric spray — spritz it on pillows, bedding, bath linens, upholstered furniture or even your clothing — was concocted by the fragrance wizards at Yamamoto Perfumery to evoke the smell of not just cat but cat forehead — that aforementioned “fluffy brow.”
Apparently, like popcorn-scented puppy paws, a cat’s head, which according to Japanese e-retailer Felissimo emanates a “freshly baked bread aroma,” is the most pleasing cat part to the human nose. To capture the essence of cat forehead, Yamamoto’s head perfumer reportedly spent four months developing the distinctive aroma, including time spent burying his face in the heads of the clientele (with permission, I'd assume) at Japan’s many cat cafes.
Just imagine all the fun you could have with a bottle of feline-scented fabric spray.
Give your sofa a light spray-down with this "delicate" yet "sweet and aromatic" scent before guests arrive.
What’s that smell?
But you don’t own a cat, do you?
No, I don’t.
Or spritz yourself (clothing, not skin) before heading out the door for an exciting night out on the town. (Don’t forget to floss!)
Hey babe, what’s that fragrance you’re wearing? I love it — so sexy, so intoxicating.
It’s cat forehead.
As mentioned, the spray currently only ships within Japan where a 100 ml (3.4 ounce) bottle of the stuff retails for ¥1200 (about $10). Felissimo does, however, offer a robust selection of Lovely Kitten Sundries that do indeed ship overseas including pen holders, cushion covers, coin purses and cardboard forklifts. Earlier this year, Felissimo also introduced cat paw-scented hand cream.
