Chris Colfer has a new four-legged love in his life.

The 21-year-old animal activist and "Glee" star recently took to Twitter to show off his new companion — a senior cat named Brian.

“I adopted a cat today from the West Valley Animal Shelter! His name is Brian, he’s 8 years-old and 20 pounds!” The “Glee” star added, “It was heartbreaking to see so many sweet animals needing homes. Please think about rescuing!”

It's particularly admirable that Colfer adopter an older animal in need, since people generally prefer kitten and puppies. However, as Alyson Berman of Ecorazzi points out, there are definitely advantages to going with age over cuteness. "Most of the time they have already spent a large majority of their lives living in a house which means they are probably potty trained and not so likely to eat your shoes," she writes.

Colfer's adoption comes on the heels of some other well-known celebs rescuing animals, including George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston and Robert Downey Jr.

"I was looking for a dog because I hadn't had one for a while — and I wanted one that was house-trained. I'm just terrible at house-training dogs," Clooney wrote in Esquire. "So I go online and see Einstein. They had a whole film about him. It was actually really sweet. You see him all beat up and s*it in the shelter, and they show how they cleaned him up. God, I love this dog. So I called and said, 'I like Einstein!'"
