Cannon Beach, Oregon

Best known for being home to Haystack Rock — you know, the dramatic basalt monolith that makes a cameo appearance in “The Goonies” — and a world-famous sandcastle-building contest, the artsy seaside enclave of Cannon Beach has also garnered a reputation as one of the most dog-friendly getaways on the Oregon coast. Pooches are allowed at all times on city beaches provided that they’re leashed. Although some folks “accidentally” leave behind their leashes when they hit up the beach, it’s crucial that pooches are controlled when sniffing near Haystack Rock because the area around the massive sea stack formation is both a National Wildlife Refuge and designated Marine Garden.

Home to a number of pet-friendly hotels and rental properties along with a trendy dog boutique, Cannon Beach is referred to by Seattle Dog Spot as a “veritable Disneyland for your dog where it can run, jump, romp, fetch, play, and swim to its heart's content.” Sounds like a ringing endorsement to us.
